2013 Youth Tour to Gallipoli

In April 2013, students from three Colleges in the Broadmeadows area (Melbourne) will travel to Turkey for a 15 day tour.  The 12 students will visit sites of historic importance and attend the Dawn Service and Lone Pine ceremonies at Gallippoli on Anzac Day.

The 2013 Youth Tour provides a unique opportunity for students to:

  • engage with Australia’s WWI Gallipoli history
  • personally experience the bonds which developed over time with the Turkish nation

Friends of Gallipoli is providing Youth Tour design and specialised advice in creating Gallipoli related projects for participating students.  The group will also offer other organisational support in seeking external sponsorship and tour leadership, to  be undertaken by Dr John Basarin (on a self funded basis).

All travel and accommodation arrangements are through Fairy Chimneys Travel Travel.

To ensure the Youth Tour remains affordable for all families, participating families will be supported in funding the tour cost.  Glenroy RSL is a foundation sponsor for the April 2013 Youth Tour.  Other sponsors are also being sought to assist with the cost of student participation.  Funding  for chaperones is provided by the individual colleges or Friends of Gallipoli organisation.
